The Story of One Continent Database

Welcome to the Allison/Wil/Lillia/Treize/Meg/Seron Database! This is(hopefully) an ever-growing database of information on the expansive world of the AWLTMS light novels. It's an ambitious project on my part(maybe a little too ambitious), but I'm sure it'll be useful for everyone to have this on hand as the series progresses.

As you can see, some of the names/terms have katakana written next to them. That indicates a word that I haven't been able to come up with a satisfactory romanization for. Please suggest alternate spellings for them. I'm talking to you, people who know European languages!

A red asterisk(*) denotes a new or updated entry. Please note that the database will contain spoilers for Allison, Lillia and Treize, Meg and Seron, and the latest update of The Story of One Continent.

Last updated: February 21, 2016 (The Story of One Continent, Chapter 14)

Senior-classman: SC for short. A term used to address older students at the same school. (See: Junior-classman)
Sou Be-Il's justice system: There is no death penalty in Sou Be-Il. Particularly heinous criminals are instead given additional years of jail time, to the point that it would be impossible for them to leave alive.
Sou Be-Il's school system: Unlike Roxche, secondary education is divided into middle school and high school for lower years and upper years respectively. Primary school is called 'elementary school'. Post-secondary education is optional.
Spear of Seron: The mark of Roxche, it is an ancient motif found in the East. The motif can be found on many military-related objects in Roxche, and was once used as the crest of the emperor in the East. In the Two Empires Era, it was known as a demon-slaying spear. This motif is also on the upper-left corner of the Roxchean national flag. The design originated from the lower half of a beacon, the upper half of which is the Curved Dagger.
Spring dance: An annual tradition in secondary schools around the Capital District. At the 4th Capital Secondary School, students must be in their fourth year or higher to attend and must have a date.
Tags: A counter-espionage strategy employed by the Roxchean military starting near the end of the Great War. A thin metal tag engraved with a certain number of animals is sewn into soldiers' badges of rank. The soldier is not permitted to know the inscription on their own tag, and the tags are switched around twice a year. When a soldier returns from their mission, a member of the military police checks their tags and matches them to a list to make sure that an enemy soldier has not stolen a uniform and impersonated an ally. Rumors suggest that the Roxchean military commissions a famous metalworking company to make the tags.
'Them': A makeshift term used to describe a group of dissidents in the Sou Be-Il military who are planning to restart the war against Roxche. In spring of 3288, they hatched a plot to smuggle Gauthier Terreur into Sou Be-Il be faking his death in a train crash.
Tolcasia Self-Defense Force: The self-defense force of Tolcasia. It is separate from the Roxchean military, and operates on a much smaller scale.
Trains: The main mode of transportation, especially over long distances. As of 3288, steam and diesel locomotives are in use.
Trans-Lutoni Bridge I: A bridge built across the Lutoni River in 3288. It connects the two sides of the continent, and is seen as a symbol of peace between Roxche and Sou Be-Il.
The Treasure of Ikstova: A secret treasure that has been passed down through the royal family of Ikstova for four hundred years. The heir to the throne is given information about the treasure at the age of ten. Fiona was never told about it. The treasure is actually a valley that begins in Ikstovan territory and stretches all the way to the Iltoa region in Sou Be-Il. It would have given the East a great advantage in war against the West, so to prevent conflict the royal family of Ikstova hid its existence from the public. The valley's existence was announced to the world in early 3306, when it was no longer a valuable military asset. After its announcement, the Treasure of Ikstova was officially named the Ikstova Pass.
Ulericks Real Estate: A real estate company run by Sophia's family.
'What is Your Name?': In 3305, a popular Capital District radio drama. A sequel is scheduled to begin in early 3306.
Whitfield Watchmakers: One of Roxche's premier watchmakers, famed for its sturdy and accurate watches. It has a relatively short history, but has been run by the Whitfield family for 60 years. There was a family feud in Stella's grandfather's generation, with the brother of Stella's grandfather leaving the family and changing his name to 'Francis'.
Whitfield Competition: An annual watchmaking contest hosted by Whitfield. Winners are guaranteed a position in the company.
Whitfield Watchmaking Academy: A watchmaking school run by Whitfield. Graduation is notoriously difficult.
'Wolves': A delinquent group in Ercho Village.
Wristwatches: As of 3305, wristwatches are considered a luxury item and could cost as much as a motorcycle, or even a car. Quartz watches are not yet small enough to be practical.

  1. As for alternate romanization, I think it might be better to call it the Laputoa Republic. Also I think Lestki Island was called Green Island in the anime, so that might be the proper translation.

    1. I'm going to wait a bit on Raputoa to get a bigger consensus. But as for Green Island, that gets addressed later on in the series.

  2. This much information in one chapter? Just. Wow. Will definitely be watching updates on this. *nods*

  3. Can you do a page like this for Vamp!, please?
It already has lots of characters and I don't expect the character count to decrease with volumes four and five.

    1. I'd love to, but that would mean going all the way back to volume I to note down all the terms, definitions, and characters, which is a lot of work (especially since I want to focus on Vamp! IV and Allison right now). Personally, I'm hoping someone will do a Vamp!/Naritaworld database so I don't have to.

    2. Delete the post above if you want.

I uploaded my text file to here:

    3. Thanks for organizing all that. I'd love to put that up somewhere, but I don't think I'll be able to keep it up-to-date if I put it up on my blog. Do you know if you could post it somewhere people could edit whenever they wanted? Like a wiki?

    4. There is no Narita wiki, and the Baccano and Durarara wikis are pretty shit. Either way, I have no wiki accounts anywhere and I'm definitely not gonna start a Vamp wiki - that's way too much work. Sorry.

You have a TVTropes account, right? Maybe upload it there somewhere.

Anyway, I'll update my file once volume 4 & 5 PDFs are released so the up-to-date status of the file depends entirely on you. ;)
I tried putting it on pastebin, but somehow it didn't want it. Do you know a page where I could just post the text and that's it?

  4. テロール: Just thought it sounds a bit like 'Taylor'

That eight-day orbital period floored me. That means a month in this world takes only eight days? Seeing that the calendar is over 3000 years makes me wonder how long a year is-- and a day too, for that matter.

    Thanks for the lovely translation!

    1. I don't think テロール would be 'Taylor', since that would be spelled テーラ. But thank you for the suggestion!

And I'm not sure if Sigsawa actually thought the whole orbital period=month thing properly through. From what I can recall later in the series, a month is about thirty days in this universe, too.

    2. By decoding the written language in the anime (which is pretty much English letters that have been substituted by [random?] symbols, it pretty much appears that the intended name is actually 'Terror', which would fit the guy's story perfectly

  5. Kinda late, but I think the proper romanization of Sfrestus is Souflestos. At least that is how it was spelled in anime subtitles.

    1. Hm... I think I prefer 'Sfrestus'. Thank you for the suggestion, though.

  6. Korazon and Corazòn are the same. This is a spanish word that means "Heart". Now, "Muto" could be "mut", that's in German and it means "courage", "braveness", etc. So together they would be something like "Braveheart". I don't know if this is the intended meaning of the name, but it fits, eh?

  8. In the sequel to Tales of Symphonia, リヒター is translated as Richter. So maybe ニヒトー is supposed to be Nichto, which, according to Google, meaning 'nothing' in Russian?
